For part 2 (here’s part 1) of our interview with Lainie Copicotto president of Aurelia Group , we venture into the world of social media and discuss the common question so many DJs face: Whether to hire a publicist or not? We hope you enjoy this one and be on the lookout for more interviews with Lainie in the near future.
Our Favorite Quotes:
I don’t think that every artist needs a publicist per se, I think they could do a lot of the work themselves…if you have something like a new record coming out or a new album remix, if you’re affiliated with a charity or something that you want to bring attention to, yeah, that’s the time because you’re going to be busy doing those things.
On the topic of social media:
It’s changed a lot. It used to be, like, viral, a lot more viral, word of mouth, messageboards, it was about people interacting, you know, on a topic. On Club Planet, or Cool Junkie, or, you know, whatever, Trance Addicts, you know, all these different messageboards. Now it’s kind of become like, um, these one-man, one-woman, kind of short blips of thought, like Twitter. And that’s it, it’s instant. And either you catch it or you don’t, unless you’re really, like, digging for the information.
So don’t just sell things to them. That fan cared enough to sign up to find out about your life, not necessarily just about your music, but about your life. So, that and, it’s important to be everywhere and it’s exhausting but you have to be everywhere.
