Movers and Shakers – Feb 1-15, 2010

By Baris on February 15th, 2010

Keeping tabs on the EDM industry is no easy feat, especially the latest artist popularity trends. Luckily at Gigsby we have some really talented ninjas who find true bliss in pouring over the latest artist trend data and analyzing those results till their blue.
As a recap remember that we’re taking recent data supplied by Last.fm and turning it into a simple easy to read summary showing who is on the uptick. Oh, and we created some Boxing inspired peer groups so no one gets the undeserved KO.

Now, for our charts for the first two weeks of February…

The HEAVYWEIGHTS (500,000 – 1,000,000 listeners):

The seemingly unstoppable David Guetta continues his ascend in the Heavyweight category, Daft Punk leads the pack closely followed by Royksopp and The Prodigy. The Grammy-nominated British Electropop band Hot Chip, The Knife and LCD Soundsystem are the newcomers to the list (Don’t forget to check out LCD Soundsystem at Coachella in April)

Artist Listeners % Change Plays % Change Latest Listeners Latest Plays Last Updated
David Guetta 0.73% 1.29% 689,269 14,312,286 2010-02-14
Tiësto 0.61% 0.9% 647,423 16,421,687 2010-02-14
Hot Chip 0.61% 1.22% 701,184 18,543,864 2010-02-14

LCD Soundsystem 0.51% 0.58% 734,798 13,832,947 2010-02-14

The Swedish electronica duo The Knife may owe some of the buzz to their upcoming studio album. The album is a collaboration between them, Mt. Sims and Planningtorock, and is a studio version of their Darwin-inspired (what?!?) opera,  Tomorrow, In A Year,  and will be released on March 1.

The LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHTS (100,000-500,000 listeners)

In our fairly stable Light Heavyweight list, Empire of the Sun continues to comfortably stay at the top followed by the newcomer Crookers. The Italian duo Crookers is coming out with a new album in March with its first single set to be release on Feb, 22nd.

He is followed by Felix Cartal, Bingo Players, BURNS, and Brooklyn’s own AC Slater  all of which got locked in a dead heat competition. Canada’s Felix Cartal released his catchy, ground pounding new single Volcano on Feb, 11th.
