A furious debate has been going on in the blogosphere about the future of music as seemingly the whole industry is reflecting on its past and worrying about its future as music production and distribution changes shape. Theories abound. We also took our part in the discussion posting numerous articles on the shifting financial weight of recording vs touring on musician income. Our key points were simple; embrace the changes and gig a lot – if you can.

Well… we know that this advice is not good enough. As Gigsby, we set out to connect EDM industry people so that the business pie grows. So we feel that we need to go beyond theories (which sometimes border speculation) and shed more light on where the industry is and what it means for the its people – be it artists, agents or promoters. After all, through Gigsby we have tremendous access to industry pros to find this out. So why not take advantage of it?

So, we shall find out. Hold on tight ’cause our series on how much DJs make is about to start. We are talking to numerous industry professional to find out how much DJs make, the impact of working with professional agencies, manager and publicists on their income, DJ salary range throughout their career lifecycle and other curious stuff. Stay tuned.

p.s: To get the paparazzi juices flowing, we have searched the Web to dig out relevant material. The literature on this topic is surprisingly weak but here is a decent one from Spin that surveys who earns what in the music industry – with the depressing finding the bodyguard of a rapper is the second best earner after a superstar DJ.
