Hello there,
We have been getting a lot of questions on how Gigsby Momentum reports work and admittedly, we have been a little secretive about it. Here is the second part to our quick guide to Momentum Reports in FAQ format:
Can I see the Momentum list based on genres?
Yes, you definitely can. All you need to do is find the genre you are interested in, and click on it. You will see the entire chart reorganized automatically based on the genre. Cool, eh?
What are those “Influential”, “Breakout”, “Star”, etc tags?
Momentum list ranks artists’ based on their fan growth expressed in percentages. While this approach serves our purpose of “new music discovery”, we also want to make sure that people using Gigsby Reports can tell if an artist has a large fan base or not – in one quick glimpse. For that, we categorized artists as Breakout, Influential, Star, SuperStar, and Legend from the less popular to the more.
Which report is more relevant – 1 day, 1 week, 1 month or 3 months?
Good question! It depends on what you’re looking for. We update the reports everyday and you’d see the most frequent changes in the 1-day report. While 1-day report is statistically less relevant, it is a great way to discover new stuff. On the opposite end, you have the 3-month report which shows artists on a sustained growth trend. Then there is the 1 week and 1 month reports in between. Our experience is that continued appearance in our monthly charts usually points at a star in the making: See for example, Skrillex, Porter Robinson, and Mord Fustang.
Hope it helps. Please continue to send your questions, praise and any other feedback.
Cheers,
Baris
