What’s this Gigsby Private Beta launch all about?

By now you’re all aware of the much-anticipated Gigsby Private Beta launch happening next week at the Winter Music Conference in Miami. We’ve been talking about the Private Beta for quite some time now, but never fully explained what a Private Beta is!

So here goes. A Private Beta is an early version of a website, in our case Gigsby, with limited functionality only offered to small group of initial users. When deciding how to launch Gigsby we were faced with a conundrum: follow the old-school route a.k.a holding off launch until every possible function has been developed, tested, and re-tested – or – follow the new-school route a.k.a launching a site with basics and continually releasing updates and new features based on your feedback. The old-school route is slow, boring and old, whereas the new school route equals quicker access to awesomeness and more say in what Gigsby will eventually become. Naturally we opted for the new school route.

What can you expect to get out of the Private Gigsby Beta?

  1. People, Venue and Gig profiles
  2. Flickr, Twitter, Myspace, last.fm and soundcloud integration
  3. Picture and video upload
  4. Follow, collab, message and booking capabilities for Gig creation

Pretty simple.

And when can you expect to receive a Private Beta Code?

Like a good wine, that may take some time. Our number one priority is quality and we don’t want to release the Private Beta to tons of people before we can test the ability to handle a heavy load of users. Don’t worry, if you’ve emailed hello@gigsby.com you’re on the list to get a Private Beta access code and it will come. If not, what are you waiting for?
